Letter from the editor
September 1, 2020
Dear readers, I want to thank you for visiting our website. As we shuffle and adjust to new beginnings as Dallas College, I want everyone to know at The Brookhaven Courier, we intend to continue giving you coverage of the Brookhaven campus, as well as local and national news and more.
When I stepped into The Courier newsroom in the Spring 2019 semester, I never imagined working my way through the ranks to become editor-in-chief. When I read the syllabus for my first writing class at Brookhaven the idea of writing and reporting was terrifying, now I find it exhilarating. Not only am I proud to represent The Courier, but I am also proud to be the first African American editor-in-chief during the publication’s 42 year history. I hope that I blaze a path for the storytellers and creatives that come after me.
Like many programs within Dallas College, The Courier was forced to make abrupt adjustments during the Spring semester when many of us made the move to online learning and/or working from home. As some of our staff worried about our jobs and the safety of our children and family, it was difficult to envision what The Courier’s future would look like. However, because of the amazing and dedicated staff at The Courier, we were able to pull together and continue producing quality content and stories.
For those of you who have access to campus, please make sure you pick up a copy of our special issue. This issue was crafted with some of the best content since we stopped the presses.
I want to give a huge thank you to all of you who continue to support The Courier online and for those of you who have picked up this special edition copy. I know that I can speak for everyone here at The Courier when I say, we thank you from the bottom of our heart.
As some of our staff have lost physical access to the campus, we would appreciate it if you contact us if you have any story ideas or content that you would like to contribute. Email us at [email protected].
