Employees and representatives are pushing voting as an essential process for students to take part in at Dallas College Brookhaven Campus.
The League of Women Voters representatives can be seen with a table set up at most Brookhaven events, making sure students are registered to vote.
Paige Elphinstone, LWV representative, said, “Our purpose is to get students registered to vote and to give them the tools they need to participate in the Democratic process.”
Ann Gallant and Marie Warwick, LWV representatives, attended the Brookhaven Back to School Bash on Aug. 31, while Ruth Klein and Elphinstone were in the Commons Courtyard on Sept. 18. LWV were also present at the Brookhaven Club Expo Sept. 6-7.
Local and state elections are not the only elections which students can take part in. Students can also help choose their Student Government Association representatives.
As SGA elections approach, Chris Schlarb, SGA adviser and student life coordinator at Brookhaven, said they encourage students to take part in the process, emphasizing the importance of SGA.
“[Student Government] is the voice of the students.” Schlarb said.“They voice student concerns to administration.” Multiple SGA positions have been filled, including president, while others remain vacant.
