With so much amazing art on display at Brookhaven Campus, it is vital to know the proper behavior around it. Arthur Fields, visual arts and photography professor, provided some do’s and don’ts for students visiting the various art galleries across Dallas College.
DO: Be observant
AF: Go in and experience it. Walk around and look up, down, from all different angles. Be very observant.
DON’T: Touch the art
AF: Don’t touch it, unless it says touch. It’s there for you to look at and enjoy.
DO: Take your time
AF: Take time with it. Sit, stare at it. Look for things that you like about it.
DON’T: Think it’s not for you
AF: The key is to be comfortable with it. Don’t think the gallery’s a museum for other people. They’re for everybody. There’s something for everybody to relate to.
DO: Make your own interpretations
AF: Try to ask yourself questions of how the art involves your senses or how it makes you feel. Does it remind you of something? Those kinds of things.
