The eclipse will occur on April 8. Lot 3 at Dallas College Brookhaven Campus will have around 600 parking spaces designated for the event and will be equipped with stations to give out eclipse viewers and water. Signs will be up to help direct visitors to parking and bathrooms. Eclipse viewers and telescopes will be available at Brookhaven.
The moon will begin to cover the sun at 12:23:31 p.m., and totality – when the moon completely blocks the sun – will occur at 1:41:06 p.m. The eclipse will end at 3:02:46 p.m.
Use protective filters, specifically made to protect from the direct viewing of the sun. Eclipse viewers provided at each campus are safe to use. Only use approved protective filters to look at the sun at all times other than when totality occurs. Otherwise, severe damage can occur to retinas.
Retinas do not have pain receptors, therefore one can and will burn their eyes, causing permanent damage without the sensation of pain. If a viewer has eclipse protective filters that appear damaged or scratched or does not have the confirmed correct filter, it is better not to use them. Opt for eclipse viewers provided on campus and prioritize eyesight.
