November 2024 wraps up the Netflix hit series “Arcane,” created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee. It has been three years since we last saw Vi and Jinx on the screen. With Jinx’s surprise attack on the Council in response to the conflict between Piltover and Zaun (Undercity), now there is only one option left, “Watch It All Burn”.
There is a lot of anticipation, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats with the overhanging topic of war between Piltover (with the help of Noxus) and Zaun. Just how exactly will the story end within nine episodes split into three arcs? Many fans revert to rewatching the first season to refresh and better prepare themselves for this upcoming season.
The series is adapted from the game League of Legends; it focuses on their two most popular champions Vi and Jinx. The series focuses on their backstory and progresses into the championships they are famously known for. Their story begins with the two sisters being orphaned by a war between Piltover and Zaun. This is the first event that would unravel the events down the line.
The show tackles topics like class, government/police control, illness, addiction and war. Much of the show deals with magic and has fantastical themes and the thematic side of the world is grounded. The world only takes a realistic stance, and so do the characters as they too have flaws and struggles with themselves and others.
Arcane dives deep into each character’s background within the first season, introducing everyone’s motives that revolve around freedom, discovery and, most of all, peace. The story revolves around two cites: Piltover, a high-class city built on gold and wealth, and Zuan (formally known as The Undercity), a city built out of metal and scraps that are clustered together.
About halfway through the episode viewers can see the class divide between the two cities. The stories of Arcane are tied to each other and almost have a domino effect throughout the season. Vi and Powder, along with their adoptive brothers Mylo and Claggor, attempted a robbery in an apartment in Piltover. However, they were unsuccessful due to Powder dropping a delicate gem that made the apartment explode and “jinxes” the whole operation. This brings tension between both cities.
Vander, who is the adoptive father of the four kids, makes an agreement with the enforcers of Piltover to keep peace. There is an underground plot of a drug that mutates people and is extremely addictive an experimental drug called shimmer. One man by the name of Silco takes advantage of the attempted robbery with the enforcers hunting down the robbers and gives them an insight as to who did it. With a little help of this shimmer, they were able to capture Vander and use him as bait for Vi and her siblings. This mission would unfortunately be unsuccessful as Jinx attempts to help. But this would cost her father and both her brothers’ lives, and the separation of Vi and Jinx. Meanwhile, Jayce, who owned the apartment that was broken into, was working on how to create magic with the help of his lab partner Viktor. Both were able to introduce the first appearance of Hextech.
Years later, Jinx causes more chaos between Piltover and the undercity, Caitlyn, who is an enforcer, is observing these attacks and gets help from Vi, who was arrested after the whole incident involving Vander and her brothers. (She was mainly arrested for being involved in the robbery.) Caitlyn needs as much help to tie this investigation together and hopefully end this chaos and break Vi out of jail. More conflict would escalate leading to Jinx creating an all-powerful weapon and using it against the council as they just voted for a peace agreement between Zaun and Piltover.
The season ends on a major cliffhanger with the fate of the council and the two cites of unknown. There is speculation and already some clear intentions of what will happen based on clips and trailers, yet there is one major question: What will the remaining episodes unfold?
