Dallas College Brookhaven Campus’s Alpha Delta Pi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society celebrated its new inductees with an induction celebration on Nov. 18. Unlike the traditional formal induction, the chapter went with an induction celebration this semester, and the party theme was “Gratitude and Gathered Friends.”
The event offered a variety of interactive activities, including games of UNO, Play-Doh crafts and puzzles. Games played a significant part in the event to ensure attendees had a chance to socialize. Catering was provided by Chick-fil-A, and a photo booth was set up for group pictures, capturing group photos throughout the evening.
The celebration’s theme of gratitude resonated with its attendees; Diana Nguyen, a new inductee, shared her appreciation for the welcoming environment. She said, “My favorite moments of the party were first walking into the building, seeing the decorated space and being able to play the games at the table.”
In addition to welcoming inductees, the chapter recognized its current officer team with medals to honor their contributions. Chapter adviser Christopher Grice said, “Instead of a formal event, we had an open induction celebration that highlighted the accomplishments of new members, the work of our current officer team and our relationships with fellow campus organizations.”
The officer team also shared their experiences. Vice President of Scholarship, Techchheng Tray said that an induction celebration allows members to feel a greater sense of belonging to the chapter and that his favorite moment was simply seeing everyone enjoy the party.
Alpha Delta Pi chapter president Alejandro Arballo spoke about the joy of welcoming new members.
“Playing UNO with everyone was the highlight, an Alpha Delta Pi classic, but my favorite moment was being able to lift everyone’s spirits with the induction and welcome so many new members to the chapter,” Arballo said.
Maria Wagner, vice president of the chapter, shared how serving as an officer helped her grow personally and professionally. She expressed gratitude for the confidence and leadership skills she developed, adding that during the celebration she especially enjoyed making Play-Doh animals with fellow members.
Special guests included Brookhaven Campus President Madeline Burillo-Hopkins, Senior Director at Dallas College Raytosha Jones, and Dean of Special Academic Programs Dr. Maria Boccalandro. The three were gifted with gift bags from the chapters officer team as a token of appreciation for their continued support.
From competitive games to heartfelt speeches, the Alpha Delta Pi chapter’s induction celebration was filled with fellowship. The fall 2024 induction celebration exemplified the chapter’s commitment to cultivating relationships, celebrating achievements and creating a supportive environment in a community that inspires student success.
