“Venom: The Last Dance” is a thrilling adventure that features Eddie Brock and Venom’s mission to be a great hero. As the story unfolds, their dream becomes shattered with both of their worlds chasing after them – and the worst part is, they want them dead. Viewers learn more about Venom’s history and the nature of the other alien symbiont. Behind the action and the roller coaster dramas, the movie reflects on some personal and global issues.
The movie is an American superhero sequel based on the Marvel Comics character, Venom. The film was directed by Kelly Marcel and was released on Oct. 25 this year. It had a budget of $120 million and has grossed over $400 million at The Worldwide Box Office.
Eddie is played by Tom Hardy and joined by characters from the previous film such as Mrs. Chen, portrayed by Peggy Lou, and Detective Patrick Mulligan, starred by Stephen Graham, appeared in the third movie. This movie involved new characters and developments that some viewers were not expecting. Some viewers were disappointed because they were expecting the appearance of Spiderman after the post-credits of the 2nd movie and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
Friendship
As Eddie sets his ex-fiancée free, his only companion left is Venom. As they try to restart their life in Mexico, new problems arise. Their compatibility deepens as the symbiont’s humorous and unpredictable nature keeps Eddie distracted and entertained. At the same time, Eddie cannot seem to fill a hole in his heart. The film portrayed their partnership as a love-hate sibling bond. Despite their constant bickering, the two had a deep sunny sense of connection and loyalty. One might say the humor and heart of the two are big elements that connect the movie to the viewers.
Accepting Differences
The movie showed how two opposites can still work together as a team. The difference, whether physical or personality, does not matter when one has a heart and an understanding nature. It is mainly focused on the duo’s capability to fill the partner with what the other is lacking.
Additionally, we see towards the end of the movie where the military worked together with Eddie to defeat the common enemy and protect the planet, putting their past behind them. Viewers also notice this with the scientists, Dr. Teddy Paine and Sadie Christmas, care and passion for the symbiont and how quickly they bond together toward the end of the movie.
Accepting those who are different and not shaming other people for their flaws sends out a message that resonates beyond the screen.
Science Revolution
Since the first film, the series featured amazing scientific developments and discoveries for the benefit of humankind, from cures to diseases to space exploration. These advancements are great but instead of fixing and correcting our ways that damaged the planet, the efforts are put into trying to find a way to live in space or other planets. If we truly look behind the screen, we can see that this is not too far off from reality.
Moral Dilemma
In the sequel, Eddie and Venom had an agreement to only eat the ‘bad guys.’ But who are the bad guys? Who or what decides if a person is bad? The film showcases some dark sides of society as the duo continues with their adventures.
The whole sequel tackled how corrupt people usually get away with crimes because they had the power and the money to do so and the less fortunate get caught up in between. Eddie himself is a morally gray character. As they fight the ‘bad guys’ and their pursuers, some end up dead or eaten by Venom. There are also various deceptions or ‘white lies’ involved as they try to save the world.
Who is saved and who will be sacrificed? Is sacrificing one or two or a group for the greater good okay? Truly one will never know. The characters face continuous moral dilemmas as they try to play their role in society.
Plot
The movie had an interesting development and entertained some viewers. However, the story was rushed and underdeveloped. There are various plot holes in the whole series that dragged the film’s rating down. Some viewers mentioned that the characters, especially the new ones, lacked backstory and essence. The film’s CGI also left some viewers disappointed. They mentioned that it was a little too much in some fight scenes. Lastly, the villain’s plot and development were not unique and were quite predictable to some viewers. Nonetheless, the film had a great balance of comedy and action that gave viewers a satisfying mix of laughter and thrills.
Action worthy
Overall, it’s a great movie to watch, especially if you were a fan of the previous film. Viewers can look forward to a roller coaster of emotions and visually captivating action scenes. Is this the end of the beginning or the beginning of an end?
