Books are meant to be opened and read through completely, giving the reader the experience of a lifetime in their own imagination.
However, once a book is completed, the best thing a reader can do is share the piece of literature to anyone willing to read. Fortunately, the Dallas College Brookhaven Campus offered everyone the opportunity to do that with a book drive.
Hosted by Beyond the Book, the book drive gave all on campus the chance to donate their physical books that will then be given to new owners. There were visible tables with boxes on top of them.
All students needed to do was put their book in the box and that’s it. Any book, regardless of what type or genre, is allowed.
This was a limited event, ending on April 17.
In order to reach as many people as possible, there were several tables throughout the campus on multiple buildings. There were two in the S Building, one between the entrance and restroom, and the other in the center of the couches in the Student Life Hub.
The campus library held one as well, next to the free books on level two. The T Building also held one underneath the staircase. One could be found in the M Building’s Honors Lounge. Finally, the last one was located in the K Building, next to The Courier rack and the study tables.
Currently, the club president, Jacqueline Sastre, and advisor, Jeremiah Stinnett, are reaching out and connecting with local organizations to donate the wide ranging amount of books the club has compiled with the drive.
