Dallas College will be hosting the 2025 Firefighter Challenge World Championship, FCWC, from Oct. 19-25. The event will take place at Brookhaven Campus, where spectators can expect a firefighter-meets-American Ninja Warrior-style competition that has been referred to as the “toughest 2 minutes in sports” by ESPN.
“It’s a whole wide community event,” said Raytosha Jones, the senior director of campus administration at Brookhaven. The event is co-sponsored by the city of Farmers Branch, with volunteer opportunities available to both students and the public. Spectators are allowed to attend the event for free.
The World Championship is open to any firefighter over the age of 13 who meets eligibility requirements. “Athletes are coming from all across the world… I don’t think we’ve had that in the past on this campus,” said Jones.
The event’s welcome reception and open practice begin Oct. 19, with the official tournament starting Oct. 20. Athletes will then compete in a series of qualifying rounds until Oct. 23, with individual, tandem and relay categories. Athletes who advance to the finals will compete on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25.

During the event, Dallas College will showcase various programs and opportunities that are available on campus. Dallas College’s Fire Protection Technology students will run the course on the opening day, Oct. 19, from 1-3 p.m. There will also be booths sharing more information on Dallas College’s nursing, engineering, emergency medical services and paralegal programs.
“We really want to showcase everything that we can here,” said Jenn Hernandez, the marketing manager at Dallas College.
Volunteer opportunities are available through Dallas College and the event organizers, the Fighterfighter Challenge League. The Firefighter Challenge League volunteers will assist with on-course duties while Dallas College volunteers will assist with areas including program tabling, event logistics and hospitality.
“It will be one of our bigger events that we’ve ever had on campus,” said Jones. With about 600 people expected daily, students and faculty will need to plan accordingly when arriving or leaving campus.
Additionally, road closures are expected on Windmill Circle between Juniper and Oak. Mesquite will also be closed at its intersections with Windmill Circle and Pine alongside Parking Lot P2. Set up for the event will start Oct. 16 and teardown will end Oct. 27.
Hernandez said, “We’re hoping to see a really good turnout from our high school students, our college students, the community members in general, and, like, really letting them know what’s possible here at Dallas College.”
