The Dallas Area Rapid Transit, DART, has announced the opening of the Silver Line. The new line will run from East Plano to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport with several stops including Downtown Carrollton Station and Addison station.
Set to open on Oct. 25, “The Silver Line opening is a realization of a promise kept to our riders and our region,” DART President & CEO Nadine Lee said in a press release. “This state-of-the-art train will improve connections, create new access to jobs, and drive economic growth across North Texas. Most importantly, this line shows our riders that we heard them, and we delivered.”
To celebrate the occasion, DART will have opening-day festivities at all 10 Silver Line stations 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 25. There will be live music, family activities and community programming, and rides will be free across the entire DART system the whole day. Rides on the Silver Line will continue to be free until Nov. 8.
Stops are anticipated to run every hour, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.. During peak hours, stop frequency is expected to increase to every 30 minutes.
For Brookhaven students, the campus will continue to be serviced by bus route 227 and GoLink Farmers Branch. Bus Route 227 additionally provides connections to Addison Transit Center, which is adjacent to the new Addison Station.
Dallas College students also have access to the DART Student GoPass program, letting them ride for free. Students with six or more credit hours or continuing education students enrolled in 96 or more contact hours, are eligible. Credit students can sign up by filling out the GoPass form in Workday, and non-credit students can fill out the form in eConnect..
“It is an investment in both today’s riders and future generations.” Garey Slagel, DART Board of Directors Chair, said in a statement. “We are proud to open its doors and welcome the community aboard.”
