Finally!
Earlier this year I said I was giving up on the Cowboys, that I didn’t care anymore. I lied to myself and to you, dear reader. For this, I am sorry. My longstanding abusive relationship with the Dallas Cowboys will likely never end, and I simply have to do my best with what I have. With that being said…
We won! The Dallas Cowboys have won a game in the year 2025, and Kenny Clark got a sack. Clearly, this means we are destined for greatness after overcoming such a formidable foe. Perhaps, dare I say it, the Cowboys can end the Super Bowl-less streak this season.
Returning now to reality… this football game made me more nervous than a salmon in a bear hug. I know the saying “any given Sunday” exists for a reason. In a professional sports league with as much parity as the NFL, any team can theoretically beat the other on any given Sunday. However, any team with playoff aspirations should be able to beat the Wilson-led Giants.
Trevon “Toast” Diggs nearly cost us the game two separate times by allowing easy touchdowns in coverage. While Malik Nabors is probably the most dangerous deep ball receiver in the league, Diggs was in a different time zone from his man several times late in the game.
I feel so bad for Dexter Lawrence. He is a once-in-a-generation interior defensive lineman, but the defense around him is simply tragic. Brian Burns and Paulson Adebo are the only other contributors on the Giants’ defense. Sadly, the Cowboys have the same issue.
Kenny Clark looks pretty good as a run stuffer on the interior, Malik Hooker is pulling his weight as a mid-tier box safety. That’s really it. With Daron Bland out and Diggs playing like he has been, I fear for the rest of this season.
We’ll see if defensive coordinator and former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus can beat his replacement this week, as the Cowboys face the Bears.
