Finishing her tenth year participating, Brenda Szewe gives a solid thumbs up.
A landscape of pink tents for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a breast cancer awareness event, surrounds Brookhaven College campus as the sun sets Nov. 2.
Amber DeAnda (left) and Kristi Boyles, who both lost their mothers to breast cancer, pose after their first Race for the Cure trek.
Nancy Dugan, who was fifth to arrive at Brookhaven, revels in completing a total of 40 miles in 48 hours. She said she is a six-year survivor and a five-year walker.
A tent set up outside the Brookhaven jogging trail provides refuge for the walkers.
The Dallas hallmark “B G” is set up for patrons to pose in.
Showing off their decorated tent, Jen Krohn (left) says this is her fifth year to walk and Carol Baldwin’s first. Both flew in from Seattle, Wash., for the walk.
Onlookers cheer on exhausted participants as they make the final steps toward the finish line at the end of their 60-mile journey.
Szewe, (left) a 10-year walker, Cindy Mortenson (center) a four-year walker, and Kathy Abott, a 10-year walker, pose after the race. The three flew in from Phoenix, Ariz., and said they have made it a tradition to travel to a new state for every Susan G. Koman three-day event they attend.
A motorcycle is decorated with an American flag and a breast cancer awareness ribbon flag, which flutter in the wind as the troupe rounds a corner at Brookhaven.
