The 2015 Adjunct Colloquium added new orientation for first time Brookhaven adjuncts.
More than 200 new and returning Brookhaven College adjunct faculty members started the semester learning to effectively support student success at this year’s Adjunct Colloquium.
The annual event, held Aug. 29, featured several breakout sessions covering topics centered on the theme of the event, student success.
Donald Smith, Brookhaven vice president of academic affairs, the classroom,” Batra said. “On the whole, I think [the colloquium] was a success.”
One of the more popular presentations was “PowerPoint to Prezi,” which walked faculty members through the process of converting a traditional PowerPoint presentation into a Prezi presentation. Prezi is an online alternative to PowerPoint, according to its website, prezi.com.
The session was so popular, in fact, Ozuna said several faculty members were turned away, and some stood in the back of the room to follow along.
First-time Brookhaven faculty member Laurent Pelletier said he planned on attending the session but ended up in one session titled “Creating a Welcoming Environment: Strategies to Nurture, Connect, and Inspire.” The session demonstrated techniques for professors to better relate to students.
