Brookhaven College students will have opportunities to show off their creative and artistic skills in two upcoming contests. The contests are part of the Open Book Project, the college’s common reading initiative.
The first of the two competitions challenges students to bring out their inner writer and come up with a 10-20 word personal motto for living in a 2040 dystopia. Entries must be submitted through bit.ly/OpenBookProjectContest. by March 1 to be eligible to receive the prizes.
The second competition is an Instagram photo contest which will challenge students to create a photo inspired by this year’s open book, “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John Mandel. Students must upload their photos to Instagram by the April 15 deadline using the hashtag #stationeleven2019.
Since 2010, the Brookhaven Open Book Project has been a healthy process to get students to read outside of the classroom.
Kate Rhoads, a department assistant in the Communications Division, said, “Reading is important and can help with critical thinking.” She also said the contest adds an extra element of fun to reading.
