The Brookhaven Campus’s Student Government Association hosted a Masquerade Ball on April 25, joining students and faculty together for a night of both formality and fun. Doors to the event opened at 6 p.m., where guests were welcomed with a dinner service followed by toasts from SGA officers, opening remarks and a brief awards ceremony.
With only a small team of six members, SGA officers worked quickly to set up the venue within three hours. Brookhaven SGA President Noor Alrubaye said that despite the pressure, they all gave it their best to pull the event together and had fun doing it.
The night combined elegance and humor, offering students the chance to reflect on the year’s accomplishments with the assistance of the SGA. Guests arrived in formal attire, with many sporting ornate masks provided at the event that fit the night’s theme.
“It truly felt like a night where all the hard work paid off and we got to celebrate with the people who believed in us,” Alrubaye said. She credited the support of deans, trustees and Director Frankie Ward. Alrubaye said, “Honestly, if it weren’t for her leadership and encouragement, this event wouldn’t have been possible.”
The dinner service set a welcoming tone, as SGA officers toasted to the achievements and expressed gratitude to advisors, student leaders and everyone in campus community.
Following dinner, SGA held a short awards ceremony, honoring individuals who demonstrated service and school spirit throughout the year in their association.
After the awards, closing remarks invited students to enjoy the rest of the evening on the dance floor. Music quickly filled the room, creating a lively atmosphere. “A personal highlight for me was the dancing,” Brookhaven student Erica Gil said. “I loved everyone’s enthusiasm and how almost every song was one that everyone felt excited for.”
Adding a playful twist to the evening, SGA also debuted “Lady A’s” gossip pamphlet, a humorous and lighthearted nod to Lady Whistledown from the book and TV series, “Bridgerton.” The pamphlet featured playful gossip and teasing on various campus SGA officers.
Overall, the Masquerade Ball offered a fitting close to a busy year, allowing the SGA to celebrate their hard work and form lasting memories with their peers. For many, it marked one of the last major campus events before graduation.
